Beitong Liu

Beitong Liu, a Musician, Erhu player, educator and cultural ambassador currently based in Hudson, NY State. She is in the first class to graduate from Bard with a degree in Chinese instrument performance offered through the US-China Music Institute at Bard Conservatory. She was educated in both traditional Chinese music and Western music theory. Studying in the United States has given her a new understanding of traditional Chinese music. The inheritance and innovation of traditional music is what she constantly thinks and pursues.

Beitong began studying erhu in 2008 and entered the Shenyang Conservatory middle school in 2012 to study with Professor Li Naiping. In 2017, she began to study with Central Conservatory of Music erhu professors Yu Hongmei and Yan Guowei. In May 2023. Beitong got her bachelor degree in Music Performance and Global and International study from Bard College and Bard conservatory.

In 2021, she performed as a soloist in The Sound of Spring Chinese New Year concert with The Orchestra Now (TŌN.). Also that year she won the Bard Conservatory Concerto Competition. In 2023, under the baton of Jindong Cai, She made her debut at Jazz at Lincoln Center as a soloist with TŌN. In August 2023 she participated in Silk Road's GMW program.

As Beitong Liu continues to carve her path in music, she remains a beacon of inspiration, unifying tradition and innovation, East and West, through the enchanting strains of her erhu. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of music in fostering cross-cultural connections and transcending geographical boundaries.
